This isn't good for the future of Nintendo games. Keep in mind, we had a reasonable number of available game systems back in 2017 when the Wii/DSi were starting to shut down. DSi and Flipnote died in 2017, but the Wii made it until 2019 and we still had the 3DS, Wii U, and Switch. In March 2017 at the switch launch, we had 5 systems with all the games available perfectly fine (especially if you had enough points).
Now we are soon going to experience the shut down of the 3DS/Wii U shops. 3DS is shocking because that system was nearly at Switch levels of sales. Wii U wasn't the most surprising because it sold a little over 13M units which was pathetic for a Nintendo console that was a sequel to one of their best selling consoles.
You can still use direct credit cards until May 2022. You can use e-shop gift cards until August 2022. You can use both nintendo account wallet and download codes for games like Pokemon Gold and Silver until 2023. Pokemon Bank will be free after the eshop closure assuming you download by then. If you don't, hunt on the internet.
